When I met and played for Tina Turner

In or around 1985 producer, Robin Scott best known for his record ‘Pop Music’ was asked by Tina Turner’s manager to make an arrangement of her forthcoming single ‘I Can’t Stand The Rain’

Initially, this had been done on a Fairlight, but Tina wanted a live band for the recording. So fortunately I got a call along with a bass player, guitarist and keys.

I had the good fortune and honour to work for Tina Turner for a whole day to routine different arrangements of ‘I Can’t Stand The Rain’.

We were, of course, all setup and ready when Tina arrived. Tina looked the picture of health and beauty. She was wearing a Harris Tweed Hacking Jacket, a pair of jeans and a really cool trilby hat. 

When the producer was happy with how ‘I Can’t Stand The Rain’ sounded we then played ‘Needles and Pins’ then Tina said to all of us:

“Okay guys, that’s good but now do any of you have any songs?”

Tina was incredibly gracious and hard-working as we ran through these songs. Sadly none of what was done has been released.

My memory is what a great day it had been for me to be playing for Tina Turner with her smiling at the band as we played the music.
